Discipleship Through Bible Study

First Baptist Church offers many opportunities for spiritual growth, and we would love to have you join in these lively study groups.  Unless noted in the class description, all classes meet Sunday Mornings at 9:15.

Wednesday Night Bible Study

Join us Wednesday nights at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall as we journey through Redemption History.  This Bible Study is a walk through the Bible book by book to discover the story of Christ and of our redemption through the whole of Scripture. Bring your Bible, bring a friend, and bring a notebook!

 

Sunshine Class

The Sunshine Class is a spiritual class for mentally and physically challenged youth and adults.  The class uses Biblically based lessons from Lifeway Special Education curriculum and resources as our guide.  Each member is provided with literature and other study resources.   The class is led by Judy Williams and meets in room 201.

 

Adult 1 Coed 1

Our class seeks to provide couples & single young adults, ages 23-34, with an informal environment to fellowship with other Christians.   The class uses Family Bible Study Series: Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Robert Klotz, and meets in room 323.

 

Adult 2 Ladies 1 – The Journey Class

Our class has a variety of ages and marital status, from 35-60 years of age.   We have fun as we learn and study together.   Our class uses the Family Bible Study Series: Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Kay Gurley and Darlo Hartdegen and meets in room 317.

 

Adult 2 Men 1

Our class brings a real mixture of backgrounds, interests, and perspectives to studying God’s word, seeking His will, and applying it to our lives.   It really is all about Him.   Ages range from 35 – 60 years.  Our class uses the Family Bible Study Series: Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Chesley Smith, and meets in room 318.

 

Adult 2 Couples 1

This class for couples ranges in age from 30-60, and uses the Family Bible Study Series: Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway.  The class is led by Dell Hill, and Donna Haynes and meets in room 320.

 

Adult 2 Couples 2 – Eclectic Servants

We are a real mix of wonderful Christians with individual ideas, both single and married.   We have wonderful around the table fellowship and a lot of discussion while we study God’s word.  Our classroom environment is informal.   We use the Family Bible Study Series: Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, and are led by George and Andrea Montgomery.  We meet in room 202.  Ages range from 40-65 years.

 

Adult 3 Ladies 1 – The Grace Class

Grace Class is made up of very active ladies who love the Lord and each other.  Studying the Bible and its applications for living out Christ’s mission on earth is the major focus of the class.  Great emphasis is placed on praying for and ministering to each other as well as reaching out to anyone with spiritual, emotional, physical, or financial needs.   Our class uses the Family Bible Study Series: Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Janis Newman, and meets in room 200A.  Ages range from 60-70 years.

 

Adult 3 Ladies 2 – The Agape Class

The class name AGAPE truly exemplifies this group of loving and caring senior adult ladies.  Christian love is shown as we meet together as well as in mission outreach in FBC, the community and worldwide.  Our class uses the Family Bible Study Series:  Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Yvonne Davis, and meets in room 204D.  Ages range from 64-75 years.

 

Adult 3 Men 1

About 75% of our class is retired.   Our class uses the Family Bible Study Series:  Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Terry King, and meets in room 203.  Ages range from 65-75 years.

 

Adult 3 Men 2

Our class uses the Family Bible Study Series:  Explore the Bible curriculum from Lifeway, is led by Guy Kaylor, and meets in room 204C.  Ages range from 63 and up.

 

Adult 4 Ladies 1

We try to stay active in helping each other and in reaching out to others in the community who might be in need.   Our class uses the Bible Study for Life:  Senior Adult curriculum, is led by Jeannette Wiggins, and meets in class 200B in the Thomas Chapel.  Ages range from 73 and up.

 

Who So Ever Will – Men’s Bible Class

An informal men’s Bible class for men of all ages who want to study God’s word in a relaxed setting with no dress code, and where no one is called on to read or pray without prior consent.   Join us for biscuits and sausage at 9:15.  You will find this class always ends on time!  It’s an ideal class for men who cannot come every Sunday, because we don’t fuss at you when you miss.  The class meets in the Grace Place, and is led by Mark Cubine.

Financial Peace University

We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!  Classes last for about an 1 ½, and meet for 9 sessions, following the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University curriculum.  The class is led by Jerryl Gaither.  For more info contact  Jerryl @ 256-375-6038.

 

Wednesday Night programs

Wednesday Warriors & Children in Action

For boys and girls in grades 1 through 6.   During the 2016-2017 school year we will use Phil Vischer's "What's in the Bible?" curriculum.  This will be a fun filled journey for the kids as Buck Denver, investigative reporter, takes them on a journey to discover truths in the bible and how it all happened.  It has been best described as Muppets meet theology!   There is also on emphasis on serving through missions, as we combine Wednesday Warriors with Children in Action.  The class meets on Wednesday nights from 6-7, beginning Sept 7, 2016, on the 3rd floor.

 

Mission Friends

For children ages 3-5.  How early can a child begin learning Christian mission concepts? The preschool years. From preschoolers to kindergartners, Mission Friends provides the building blocks of faith and a basic awareness of God's love for all people.   Creative activities and mission stories are included to help establish missions awareness and involvement. The class meets on Wednesday nights at 6:00 pm, beginning Sept 7, 2016, on the 3rd floor.
