Service Positions

First Baptist Church has many ways of serving within the local body of believers.  If you are interested in serving in any of these positions, please contact a staff member, or the church office at 256-362-8081.

Ushers – Ushers welcome people who attend our worship services as they arrive in the Worship Center,  help guests with children locate the nursery (if desired), receive the offering during the service and provide security in the sanctuary and foyer during services.

Greeters – We greet all who come on Sunday morning and assist them as they enter the building.   Greeters begin between 8:30 and 8:45 and serve either at the double glass doors by the office, or at the side entrance (handicapped accessible) of the Worship Center.   Each person is welcomed as a special guest and, if needed, we guide guest to the Welcome Center.

Parking Lot Ministry – Members of the Parking Lot Ministry welcome and assist people members with parking and security needs in the various parking lots.  This service begins around 8:30 and at least one member serves until the beginning of the worship service.

Welcome Center Volunteers – As people arrive for Sunday School, Welcome Center Volunteers welcome visitors, register their attendance and assist them in finding the appropriate Sunday School Class, nursery, and Worship Center.

Prayer Partners – Prayer Partners serve during the morning Worship Service in the prayer room located outside the doors by the organ.  Each prayer partner spends thirty minutes in the prayer room on their assigned date.   We pray for needs on our weekly prayer list and for the worship service.

Nursery Workers – Nursery Workers provide care for children between the ages of newborn and 5 years during the Sunday morning or evening worship services, or Wednesday evening.  Workers arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the service (10:20 am and 4:50 pm) and stay until the last child leaves.

Vacation Bible School – VBS workers serve in a variety of capacities during our week-long VBS program each summer.   VBS workers serve as teachers, assistants, directors or helpers for games, crafts, snacks, music, and other activities.

Music Ministry/Choir – Members of the Music Ministry facilitate worship through music during the Sunday Morning and Evening Worship Services, and Wednesday Evening Bible Study.

Van Drivers – Van Drivers provide transportation for people who need a ride on Sunday morning or Sunday evening.   Some drivers also serve to transport adults, youth and children for Wednesday evening programs.

Seasons of Talladega – Members of this ministry hold a weekly Bible Study each Thursday at the Seasons of Talladega, assisted living facility.

Rainbow Church Workers – Rainbow Church is designed to provide a safe learning environment for members of the Sunshine Class and guests with special needs during morning worship.   Our ministry gives parents, care givers, and guardians the opportunity to attend worship service.  Volunteers usually work one Sunday per quarter.

Media Library Staff - Members of the Library Staff are available to assist with selection and check out of resources.  The library is open on Sundays prior to the Sunday School hour, and during the week.   A schedule is maintained in the Weaver Library.
